Senior Data Scientist

The Senior Data Scientist will play a key role in accelerating Summit’s approach toward and leverage of talent and organizational analytics, increasing our utilization of leader, team, and organization data collected through our client engagements. They will lead efforts to organize our data collected through client engagements and build a reliable and repeatable process to derive insights helping our clients make better decisions to scale their business and develop leaders. The Senior Data Scientist will take analytical insights to support client engagements and promote thought leadership, using data to facilitate insightful and actionable stories.

Given Summit’s growth trajectory and ongoing maturity in data analytics, the responsibilities of the data scientist role will evolve over time; however, general accountabilities expected from a Senior Data Scientist include the following: 

Data Infrastructure. Take a lead role in building out data infrastructure from client engagements, ensuring data are clean, reliable, accessible, and secure. Will need to align structured and unstructured data at multiple levels of analysis (e.g., individual, team, and organization), and establish an ongoing, seamless process to collect, code, and store data through Summit’s client projects. Provide ongoing support for technology partners in building out Summit’s database.

Data Analysis and Insights. Derive relevant, actionable insights and unique intellectual property using appropriate and complex analytic models to apply to both structured and unstructured data sets. Develop logically structured, intuitive presentations and data visualizations designed for Summit clients and consultants. Conduct ongoing analytics across clients to identify trends and provide ad hoc analytics for client projects. Prepare and clean data sets as needed for client projects.

New Product Development Support. Help drive product development initiatives by applying data science expertise to improve offerings, increasing speed to insights and consultant efficiency in client delivery. Partner with technology providers to help design applications that complement Summit’s offerings.

Scale Talent Analytics Function. Advance the data science discipline within Summit through sharing and promoting data best practices, taking a proactive approach to explore research questions, scaling knowledge and tools with Summit consultants, and building out capabilities in the function to meet Summit’s growth needs. Maintain an external view on data science trends and best practices applicable to Summit’s business and its clients.

Qualifications

Qualifications
• 2-4 years of applicable work experience providing data science expertise in an applied business environment, preferably with similar HR/talent/organizational data currently collected by Summit (e.g., individual and organizational assessment and survey data).
• Degree in a quantitative research field (e.g., Computer Science, Applied Mathematics)
• Advanced degree in a quantitative research field preferred (e.g., Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Machine Learning, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Mathematics, etc.).
• Fluent with HR/talent/organizational data, systems, and common analytical needs and projects.
• Experience and proficiency with various programming languages, statistical packages, data modeling, and databases.
• Experience with unstructured data, machine learning, predictive analytics, and data visualization applications.
• Experience communicating results of analysis to a variety of audiences, translating complex analyses to interpretable insights and recommendations.

• Technical depth. Stays abreast of rapidly evolving trends in applied data science and talent/organization data analytics. Understands and can apply fit-for-purpose data analytics strategies and approaches to analyze structured, unstructured, and multi-level data.
